Representative Ramsey in his first term in 2008 was tapped by House leadership to serve as a Deputy Whip. Subsequent to that he was appointed by Governor Perdue to serve as one of his administration’s House Floor Leaders from 2009-2010. Prior to beginning his law practice, Matt served on United States Congressman Mac Collins’ staff for six years, advising the Congressman on several key issues including: tax and budget policy, transportation, energy, defense and veterans. Representative Ramsey has helped author and push through a number of important pieces of legislation including a measure to close a loophole in the state’s child molestation statute, bills aimed at prohibiting the use of cell phones by teen drivers and texting by all drivers, a bill aimed at promoting a statewide culture of water conservation, and the JOBS Act which provides numerous tax cuts and incentives to private employers to spur job creation in Georgia. Matt is also the primary author for the 2011 legislative session of bills to allow Georgians more choice in the health insurance market by providing for the sale of insurance products from other states and comprehensive legislation aimed at addressing the social and economic consequences in Georgia of illegal immigration.
Matt Ramsey grew up in Fayette County and went to elementary school at North Fayette Elementary, junior high at Fayette Junior High School and graduated from Fayette County High School in 1993. He is a graduate of Georgia Southern University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. Matt, while working full time during the day, obtained his Juris Doctorate degree through the evening program at Georgia State University College of Law, graduating cum laude in 2005. Matt Ramsey and his wife Missy have two children, Anna Lynne and Jacob. On the weekends the most likely place to find the Ramseys is at the local little league fields or recreation gym where Matt thoroughly enjoys coaching his children’s youth sports teams. The Ramseys live in Peachtree City and are active members of Peachtree City United Methodist Church. Matt is active in a variety of local organizations, including the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce and the Joseph Sams School, where he serves on the Board of Directors. |
